Ur employer is required to withhold state and federal income taxes including SDI. state level disability taxes in Cali. and NYState, as well as, FICA Taxes social security and Medicare taxes from ur wages. Ur employer is also required to pay a matching amount of ur social security and Medicare taxes for you and to pay State and Federal unemployment tax. U may contact ur employer to confirm the amount of the payroll tax withheld by ur employer.
Ur employer has each new employee's IRS form W-4. He will use this form to calculate the amount of federal income tax to withhold from ur wages.In general, he applies either percentage or wage bracket method to calculate ur Fed. tax withheld from ur paychecks. In ur state, both u and ur employer r also responsible for the unemployment tax, SUTA tax, u need to pay 1.1%  on ur wage up to $90,669 and also need to pay ur state tax.
IN ur state; U, as an employee need to pay:
FICA taxes--OASDI;6.2%
FICA taxes--HI;1.45%
FIT taxes
State taxes
SUTA taxes
SDI taxes
other Misc. taxes; Union dueshealth ins. premims( if applicable); As single taxpayer with only one exemption, u usally pay more taxes because of claiming only one exmeption on ur W-4.

Ur employer must pay a matching amount of FICA taxes. Currently the social security tax rate is 6.2%. Ur employer is required to withhold only 6.2% of ur wages for social security taxes and to pay a matching amount in social security taxes until u reach the wage base for the year, $106,800 for 2010. The Medicare tax rate is 2.9% for the employee and the employer. Ur employer will withhold 1.45% of ur wages and pay a matching amount for Medicare tax. There is no wage base for the Medicare portion of the FICA tax. Both u and  ur employer continue to pay Medicare tax, no matter how much is earned.
