For the first time in more than two years, the Federal Reserve today decided not to raise interest rates. Wall Street responded by selling stocks, concluding the risk in the future is a softer economy.
The central bank’s Federal Open Market Committee kept its key rate at 5.25%. The Fed suggested that a slowing economy will alleviate inflation.
"Inflation pressures seem likely to moderate over time, reflecting contained inflation expectations and the cumulative effects of monetary policy actions and other factors restraining aggregate demand," the Fed statement said
